Nights out can’t get better than Priscilla the Party!

Priscilla the Party delivers an unforgettable experience, showing the vibrant spirit of the beloved film and stage production. Initially sceptical, I was quickly swept up in the excitement and energy of the night.

Before delving into the heart of the show, a few housekeeping notes: while chairs are available for booking, I recommend standing to fully immerse yourself in the experience. The dynamic staging and audience movement, coupled with intervals, ensure that even if you’re not at the front the entire time, you won’t miss out on the action. The mezzanine offers a great vantage point and access to a less crowded bar.

The evening kicks off with individual acts to set the mood, each performer shining in their own right. Trevor Ashley, portraying Gaye Cliché, serves as a charismatic narrator, introducing characters and setting the tone seamlessly while reminding you not to take photos of the show.

The incorporation of a giant video wall by Justin Nardella adds depth to the performance, though my attention remained riveted on the performers throughout. The adaptation of the story is masterfully executed, with poignant moments handled with finesse.

Reece Kerridge embodies Adam/Felicia with remarkable flair, his entrance swinging in on a giant disco ball reminiscent of  Wrecking Ball being particularly memorable. Lucy Park’s portrayal of Cynthia is jaw popping, her performance culminating in a spectacular routine involving ping pong balls showering the audience, a nod to the film’s iconic scene.

Dakota Starr and Bernadette, along with Owain Williams as Tick/Mitzi, round out the trio with stellar performances, capturing the essence of their characters effortlessly. The addition of “the divas” is a stroke of genius, seamlessly blending into the performance and providing live vocals to the band’s music, injecting even more energy into the party atmosphere. The characters were able to lipsync to their singing which I loved, while I occasionally lost track of who was actually singing, I found this concept thoroughly enjoyable.

Special recognition must be given to Tim Chappel and Lizzy Gardiner for their timeless costume designs, which play a pivotal role in keeping the show fresh and vibrant.

In essence, Priscilla the Party is a wild, exhilarating ride, staying true to its roots while infusing new energy and creativity into the experience
