Venturing into Phantom Peak for “Christmas at the Peak” felt like stepping into a holiday-themed wonderland blended with an escape room. This immersive experience blurs the lines between a theme park and an escape room, creating a unique and delightful evening that left us both puzzled and entertained.

Upon entering, the town’s story unfolded around us. Characters engaged in lively conversations, and we even had one join us for a nap at our table—an unexpected encounter. Some visitors got into the spirit with festive or steam punk attire (hint: cast members wear a badge).

The options for food and drink were impressive, ranging from hot beverages to alcoholic concoctions and top-notch hot food. A short presentation acquainted us with the town’s history and introduced us to the Mayor, along with information about accessing the website “JoanAssist.”

JoanAssist, the digital guide, presents many quests, each with its own unique twist—mystery versus adventure and more. With over ten quests available, it’s a treasure trove of challenges waiting to be explored. (hint: don’t miss the tiny button for clues on JoanAssist; we discovered it half an hour and many steps)

As we embarked on our quests, we encountered moments of bewilderment. Thankfully, the cast members were eager to assist, providing clues and adding a layer of interactive charm to the experience. Our three-hour experience included two quests, two drinks, and a delightful mac cheese and chips combo—truly a perfect way to spend an evening.

I highly recommend attending Phantom Peak as a group, fostering friendly competition or cooperative problem-solving. The performers stayed true to their characters, enchanting us throughout. Special shoutouts to the post office boy, the scientist, and the undertaker, who added a magical touch to the experience.

I don’t know what to say about all the platypuses, but as far as mascots go its great and you can pick up some bits in the giftshop too.

For those planning a visit, here are some top tips:

Ensure your phone is charged; you’ll want to refer to clues throughout the adventure.

The sat nav might lead you to a back parking lot; use common sense to find the front door with signs and cast members.

There are both indoor and outdoor elements, so keep your coat handy for comfort.

Wear some comfortable footwear, you will be getting those steps in.
